Northern Governors Demand Action on State Police, Security Review

The Northern Governors’ Forum has challenged the Federal Government to take concrete steps to address the growing insecurity in the region. At a joint meeting with traditional rulers in Kaduna, the governors called for the creation of state police, urging the National Assembly to expedite action on the necessary legislation.

The governors also resolved to work with the Nigerian Governors Forum to increase support to federal security forces and strengthen local initiatives to combat security challenges. They expressed concern over recent attacks and killings in several states, including Plateau, Benue, Bauchi, Borno, and Yobe.

“We condemn the recent attacks and killings in some parts of the North and urge the Federal Government to review its security strategies,” said Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum.

The governors emphasized the need for collaboration between federal, state, and local security agencies to effectively tackle insecurity. They also commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to addressing security challenges and infrastructural deficits in northern Nigeria.
