Russian court fines Apple for violating ‘LGBT propaganda’ law
A court in Moscow has imposed a fine of $130,483 on Apple, citing violations of the country’s laws restricting LGBT content. The court found Apple Distribution International Ltd guilty of four administrative offenses, including three related to alleged LGBT propaganda and one for failing to restrict access to online content deemed illegal.
This latest development is part of Russia’s ongoing crackdown on LGBT rights, with President Vladimir Putin’s government pushing a narrative of moral decay in Western countries. The fines total 10.5 million rubles.
Apple has not yet commented on the ruling. The tech giant’s representative had requested closed hearings, leaving the specifics of each case unclear. Russia’s recent designation of the “international LGBT movement” as extremist has raised concerns.
