Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has withdrawn from reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring his intention to fight against the party until justice prevails. The former Rivers State governor, who now serves under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, had earlier predicted that the APC would defeat his own party, the PDP, in the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement titled “PDP Crisis: My Position,” released on May 25, 2025, Wike accused key PDP figures, including Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Peter Mba of Enugu State, of dishonesty and breaching agreements meant to resolve the party’s internal conflicts. He detailed multiple failed attempts at reconciliation, including meetings with former Senate President Bukoka Saraki and several PDP governors, where resolutions were allegedly disregarded.
Wike specifically criticized Makinde for orchestrating moves to sideline Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the PDP’s National Secretary, contrary to earlier agreements. He also pointed to the recent collapse of the PDP’s North-Central zonal congress in Jos, where INEC refused to participate because the invitation letter was improperly signed by the Deputy National Secretary instead of the legally recognized National Secretary.
Expressing frustration over what he described as repeated betrayals, Wike emphasized his long-standing commitment to the PDP since 1998 and his role in securing electoral victories for many of its governors. Despite his contributions, he lamented the lack of trust among party leaders and declared his withdrawal from all previous agreements.
“I had thought that we could keep the trust amongst us, but since it is now obvious that they would continue to play games to the detriment of the party… I have now firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I have decided to fight on until justice is attained,” he declared.
Wike’s latest remarks deepen the crisis within the PDP, which has been grappling with factional disputes since its defeat in the 2023 presidential election. His position as a serving minister under the APC government, coupled with his open defiance of the PDP leadership, raises questions about his political allegiance and further weakens the opposition party ahead of future elections.

As the PDP struggles to contain its internal divisions, Wike’s defiance signals a looming battle that could reshape the party’s future, while his prediction of an APC victory in 2027 underscores the growing challenges facing Nigeria’s main opposition party.
