Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji is reportedly making overtures for peace following the death of his top field commander and cousin, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo, according to multiple credible sources cited by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst.
Turji, one of Nigeria’s most wanted terror leaders in the North West, is said to be calling for a meeting with other bandit groups to discuss the possibility of surrendering and entering into dialogue with the governments of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states.
The sudden shift towards peace may be directly linked to Danbokolo’s death, who was the mastermind behind Turji’s terror network, orchestrating violent raids, ambushes, and mass abductions. Sources familiar with the group’s structure reveal that Turji was largely the public face, while Danbokolo led the fighting forces, managed logistics, and enforced authority in forest corridors.
Danbokolo was fatally wounded during a June 23 operation by the Department of State Services and HYBRID Forces in Chida village, Fakai District of Shinkafi LGA, and died three days later. Sources believe Turji’s peace overture might be a tactical response to mounting pressure and operational losses rather than genuine repentance.
Security agencies have not officially commented on Turji’s reported peace gestures. However, analysts caution against forgiveness, warning that any engagement should focus on neutralizing him. “Turji must not be forgiven. The government must reject his plea to surrender,” a source close to the matter advised.
