President Tinubu Extends Tenure of Customs CG Adeniyi

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, whose term was originally scheduled to end on August 31, 2025.

The Presidency announced on Wednesday that the extension would allow Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives under the current administration. These include the modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service, the implementation of the National Single Window Project, and the execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu commended Adeniyi for his dedicated leadership and service. The President expressed confidence that the extension would further strengthen the Customs Service in delivering its core mandates of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security.

Adeniyi, a member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), has been instrumental in driving key reforms since his appointment, including the automation of customs processes and enhanced anti-smuggling operations.

The President urged the Comptroller-General to maintain the current momentum in transforming the agency for greater efficiency and national development.
