The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched an investigation into an incident involving Fuji music star King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The altercation occurred during boarding for ValueJet Airlines Flight VK 201 to Lagos when aviation security personnel intercepted the musician for attempting to carry an undeclared liquid substance aboard. Eyewitnesses reported the Grammy-nominated artist resisted compliance with security protocols, leading to a confrontation with airline staff.
“Preliminary findings confirm the passenger violated ICAO Annex 17 regulations by attempting to carry over 100ml of undeclared liquid, later identified as alcohol,” FAAN stated in an official release. “The passenger was informed of this regulation but reportedly declined to comply. As boarding continued, an airline security officer asked the passenger to step aside for further clarification.”
The situation escalated when KWAM 1 reportedly spilled the contents on an aviation security officer. The aircraft captain subsequently ordered the doors closed for departure while AVSEC’s crime unit intervened to remove the musician from the boarding area.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, emphasized: ” The Authority will not tolerate any actions that compromise operational integrity or undermine aviation safety standards, regardless of the individuals involved.”

Industry analysts note this incident highlights recurring challenges with VIP compliance at Nigerian airports. Slyke Bulletin recalls former Edo state Governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole recently held up aviation business at the Air Peace desk when he disrupted operations after being shut out from boarding for allegedly being late.
KWAM 1’s management has yet to issue a statement. The incident occurred amid heightened security at Nigerian airports following recent ICAO safety audits. FAAN reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward security breaches, with outcomes of the investigation expected within 72 hours.
