The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has announced a significant breakthrough in securing the country’s oil pipelines and terminals, with crude oil receipts reaching nearly 100 percent. Bayo Ojulari, Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC, made the disclosure on Monday at the 2025 African Chiefs of Defence Staff summit.
Ojulari attributed the achievement to the support of the security forces and intelligence agencies, commending their professionalism, discipline, and collaborative spirit. “Today, I can proudly report to you all that our pipelines and terminal crude oil receipt, that was somewhere as low as 20 to 30 percent some periods back, we are attaining close to 100 percent due to the support of the security forces and intelligence agencies,” he said.
The NNPC boss reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting security efforts, particularly amid rising geopolitical tensions. He emphasized the company’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with the military and other institutions to safeguard national interests.
According to Ojulari, the industry-wide security architecture in Nigeria has greatly reduced incidents of sabotage, vandalism, crude theft, and piracy. He revealed that international syndicates are behind the crude oil theft, which has long plagued the nation’s oil industry.

The NNPC GCEO’s announcement marks a significant improvement from the situation in August 2023, when National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu disclosed that Nigeria was losing 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily to criminals and economic saboteurs. This theft had hindered the country’s ability to achieve its production capacity of 2 million barrels per day.
Ojulari expressed optimism about expanding the security architecture to a regional and continental level, leveraging technology and policies to facilitate seamless collaboration across borders. He assured that the oil and gas sector stands ready to complement efforts to safeguard Africa’s resources, strengthen peace, and create an enabling environment for the continent’s prosperity.
