Obi Urged to Join Action Alliance

ABUJA – In a move that could reshape Nigeria’s opposition landscape, the Godson/Babawa Campaign Organization (GOBACO) Abuja has publicly called on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to defect to the Action Alliance (AA) party.

The appeal, issued in a statement on Saturday, positions the Action Alliance as the ideal platform for Obi to harness what it describes as the “abundant progressive youth energy” within the party.

GOBACO, the campaign organization of the AA Chairmanship candidate of AMAC, Godson Nemieboka and his running mate Philip Babawa, argued that the political climate in Nigeria is rapidly evolving, with a new generation of voters demanding more responsive and dynamic leadership. It stated that the Action Alliance has demonstrated a consistent commitment to engaging and empowering this critical demographic.

“The party’s focus on building youth resilience and development through creative expression and community action provides a solid foundation for a modern political movement,” the GOBACO statement read. 

“This aligns perfectly with the energy and vision that Peter Obi has inspired in many citizens.

There have been news reports indicating the collapse of Peter Obi’s interest in the ADC and a possible move to the Action Alliance.

GOBACO framed the potential move as a “powerful synergy” that would merge Obi’s established political experience and massive following with the “vibrant, progressive edge” of the AA’s youth wing. The organization believes this fusion would create a “formidable force dedicated to national transformation,” significantly boosting the party’s chances of electoral success at all levels.

The call is being seen by political analysts as an attempt to consolidate the fragmented youth vote that was a defining feature of the 2023 general elections. It presents the Action Alliance as a viable and receptive home for the movement popularly known as “Obidients.”

“This is a call for unity and strategic realignment,” GOBACO stated, encouraging the former Anambra State governor who garnered 6m votes in the 2023 elections, to “seize this historic opportunity” to join a platform it claims is “poised to make a substantial impact.”

As of the time of reporting, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the invitation. His decision will be closely watched, as it could signal a major realignment ahead of future elections.
