ABUJA – The Action Alliance AMAC Chairmanship candidate in the forthcoming FCT Area Council elections, Godson Nemieboka, has called for a state of emergency to be declared on the healthcare sector in the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement released to newsmen over the weekend, Nemieboka urged the FCT Administration to expedite ongoing efforts to massively recruit medical doctors and other healthcare professionals to address what he described as “critical human resource gaps” in the territory’s health sector.

“The recent resolution of the strike by resident doctors is a positive step, and we acknowledge the Minister’s approval of their requests,” he said. “However, this situation underscores a deeper, systemic need for a robust and well-staffed healthcare system.”

While acknowledging the FCT Administration’s giant strides in infrastructure, the candidate argued that persistent manpower shortage remains a fundamental barrier to quality healthcare for residents. He pressed the administration to apply the same vigor seen in its road infrastructure projects to the healthcare crisis.

“The shortage of medical personnel is a significant barrier to accessing basic healthcare,” Nemieboka’s statement read. “We urge the FCT Administration to build on its current efforts and declare a state of emergency in the health sector concerning human resources. A massive, sustained recruitment campaign is essential to bridge the doctor-to-patient ratio, reduce waiting times, and ultimately save lives.”

Concluding his appeal, Nemieboka stated that under the national Renewed Hope Agenda, which promises holistic development, every FCT resident deserves access to quality and affordable healthcare. He pledged that his platform stands ready to support all efforts aimed at achieving this vital goal.
