Abuja – The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Abuja and Northern Zone, has officially thrown its weight behind Godson Nemieboka, the Action Alliance (AA) candidate for the Chairmanship of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in the forthcoming area council elections.
The endorsement was announced last week during a meeting between the IYC leadership and the candidate in Abuja.
Mr. Deima Emmanuel, Chairman of the IYC for Abuja and the Northern region, who was flanked by members of his executive, formally declared the council’s support. He traced the significant contributions of the Ijaw people to national development, stating that Abuja’s prosperity is intrinsically linked to the wealth generated from Ijaw land.
“From the oil that fuels the nation’s economy to the countless professionals shaping its destiny in every field, the Ijaw people have given their all for a prosperous Nigeria. Our contribution is not just in resources, but in the hardworking spirit and intellect of our people who have served this nation with distinction,” Emmanuel stated.
He saw Nemieboka’s candidacy as a continuation of this legacy. “Today, we see in Godson Nemieboka another worthy son prepared to offer his own excellence to the national story. We are confident that his leadership in AMAC will demonstrate the quality and commitment that the Ijaw nation has always brought to the table of national development.”
He emphasized IYC’s alignment with Nemieboka’s programs and pledged the bloc vote of the Ijaw community in the FCT. “We support your candidacy and we will deliver votes in bulk to you,” the IYC Chairman declared.
In his address, the AA candidate, Godson Nemieboka, had approached the council as a “son” seeking guidance and backing. “As your son, I thought it proper that you should be one of the people to consult with to seek your support in the election,” Nemieboka said.
He reiterated his commitment to fostering an inclusive and prosperous community, adding, “As law-abiding Nigerians resident in Abuja, we are committed to building a prosperous country where every citizen will live a fulfilled life.”
The endorsement from the IYC is considered a significant boost for Nemieboka’s campaign, potentially consolidating a key demographic bloc ahead of the polls.
