The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the current senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, will not retain her seat in the National Assembly.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on March 2, 2026, Wike reiterated his earlier stance that public officials must be evaluated strictly on their performance, insisting that Kingibe’s record would ultimately determine her political future.
Wike said he remained convinced that the senator would not return for another term, stressing that leadership should be judged by visible achievements and service to the people.
He also rejected claims by Kingibe that she had made unsuccessful attempts to contact him, stating that there had been no direct communication between them. According to the minister, governance requires sincerity and measurable contributions rather than political posturing.
The FCT minister emphasized that elected representatives must demonstrate clear results, particularly in underserved communities and satellite towns across the territory, where residents expect tangible government presence.
Wike’s remarks highlight the growing political tension between the FCT administration and the senator, signaling an intensifying rivalry as future electoral contests begin to take shape.
