Jos — The Plateau State Government has reported 5,397 cases of Tuberculosis (TB) in 2025, highlighting the persistent burden of the disease despite ongoing control efforts.
The State Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Ba’amlong, disclosed the figure on Monday while briefing journalists in Jos ahead of the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day.
Ba’amlong said the statistics underscore the continued public health challenge posed by TB in the state, even as authorities intensify interventions to curb its spread.
He noted that the government, working with development partners, has scaled up case detection, expanded treatment services and increased public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing transmission and deaths.
The commissioner urged residents to utilise free TB testing and treatment services available at designated health facilities, stressing that early diagnosis remains critical to effective treatment and cure.
He also cautioned against stigmatizing individuals living with TB, emphasising that the disease is fully curable when patients adhere strictly to treatment.
Ba’amlong called for greater community support to encourage those affected to seek medical care without fear or discrimination, while appealing to residents to back the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang in its efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
