The United States Mission in Nigeria has welcomed a new Consul-General in Lagos. Rick Swart, a career diplomat with extensive experience, will serve in the position for the next three years. During his tenure, he plans to travel across the 17 states under the Consulate General’s jurisdiction to engage with locals, immerse himself in Nigeria’s culture, and strengthen US-Nigeria relations.

Upon his arrival, Swart expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating that he aims to advance shared goals that will make both countries safer, stronger, and more prosperous. He also praised his predecessor, JoEllen Gorg, for her leadership and efforts in promoting US-Nigeria partnership in the region.

Before assuming his new role, Swart served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Chad. His diplomatic career has taken him to various countries, including Congo, Burundi, Iraq, and Mali, where he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer before joining the State Department in 2002. Swart looks forward to collaborating with Ambassador Mills and the US Embassy team in Abuja to further US-Nigeria objectives.
