Ndjemena, Chad –  The newly appointed Force Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Ibrahim Sallau Ali, has declared the force fully equipped to deliver on its mandate of restoring peace and security to the volatile Lake Chad Basin region.

General Ali made the pledge during his maiden official visit to the Headquarters of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) in Ndjemena, Chad, where he emphasized the need for collective action to stabilize the region.

“To restore law and order in the Lake Chad Basin, all stakeholders must work together,” the commander stated, while appealing for enhanced support from the LCBC to enable the MNJTF fulfill its mission.

In his response, LCBC Executive Secretary Ambassador Mamman Nuhu, who also serves as Head of Mission for MNJTF, commended General Ali’s dynamic leadership approach, noting it has already begun reinvigorating the force.

“The Commander’s inclusive leadership style sets the right tone for the MNJTF’s operations and demonstrates strong commitment to our shared objectives,” Ambassador Nuhu remarked.

The LCBC chief particularly praised the unwavering support from Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs), describing their continued engagement as crucial to the task force’s operational successes against insurgent groups.

General Ali, who recently assumed office as the tenth MNJTF Force Commander, brings over 30 years of military experience to the role. He has pledged to deploy his counterinsurgency expertise to decisively tackle the persistent Boko Haram threat in the region.

The MNJTF comprises troops from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Benin, working collaboratively to combat terrorism and restore stability across the Lake Chad Basin area.
