The US Open will make tennis history this year by awarding a staggering $5 million to both the men’s and women’s singles champions – part of a record $90 million total prize pool that tournament organizers proudly call “the largest purse in tennis history.”

This year’s champion’s check represents a massive 39% increase from last year’s $3.6 million payout, while the total prize money has jumped 20% from 2024’s $75 million distribution. The figures dwarf those of Wimbledon, where this year’s singles winners each received £3 million from a £53.5 million total purse.

Even first-round losers will benefit from the financial windfall, taking home $110,000 – a 10% increase from 2024. The announcement comes after the world’s top 20 players petitioned Grand Slam tournaments for a greater share of event revenues earlier this year.

Tournament organizers emphasized their commitment to across-the-board increases, stating they’ve made “a deliberate and concerted effort to ensure double-digit percentage increases from 2024 in all rounds of all events for all players,” while particularly boosting payouts for deep tournament runs.

The doubles competitions will see a 23% prize money increase to $4.78 million, with champions in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles each earning $1 million per team for the first time in tournament history.

Additional player support includes $5 million allocated for travel and expenses, while qualifying tournament prize money rises 10% to $8 million. The 2025 US Open at Flushing Meadows runs from August 24 through September 7, when tennis history will be made both on the court and in the record books.
