In a scathing rebuke, the South-East Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives has demanded the immediate resignation of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, over the botched 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The lawmakers described the exam’s outcome as a “national shame” and called for a complete cancellation of the exercise.
The caucus leader, Igariwey Iduma Enwo, signed a statement condemning JAMB’s handling of the exam, which was marred by technical glitches, low scores, and alleged irregularities. “Leadership must carry consequences,” the statement read. “We call on Professor Ishaq Oloyede to do the needful by resigning his appointment to pave the way for a thorough examination and remediation of the root causes of this national shame.”
The caucus expressed outrage over the impact of the glitch on the South-East region, saying all five states were directly affected by “JAMB’s so-called ‘score distortions’.” They described the situation as “a disastrous and catastrophic institutional failure” that has shaken the trust and confidence of students and families nationwide.
The Senate’s South-East Caucus echoed a similar sentiment, blaming the incident on “hateful politics” and “narrow parochial considerations.” Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South) hinted at a possible conspiracy to undermine the future of children in the region. Both caucuses demanded answers from JAMB and called for an end to political interference in educational policy.
