
A tragic incident has sparked widespread outrage in Ibadan, Oyo State, after a secondary school student was killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by a policeman. The incident occurred Tuesday morning along Akala Express, near Gbagi Market Road, as the officer was chasing suspected internet fraudsters also known as ‘Yahoo Boys.’
According to eyewitnesses, the policeman aimed to shoot out the tires of the suspects’ car but mistakenly hit the student, who was in his father’s car on the way to write his WAEC exam with his twin. The student was rushed to Welfare Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The incident has triggered public anger, with enraged residents carrying the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat to draw the attention of Governor Seyi Makinde. The protesters are demanding justice for the victim and accountability from the police.
As of the time of publication, there has been no official statement from the Police regarding the incident. The community is still reeling from the shock, and the incident has reignited concerns about police brutality and the need for greater accountability.
