The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested eight individuals, including two Chinese nationals, for alleged involvement in illegal mining activities in Ogun State. The operatives of the EFCC’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 swooped on the suspects in the Ogere area on Friday, May 9, 2025, following credible intelligence and detailed surveillance.
The arrested individuals include Zhang Hang Lin and Gao Pei Hai (Chinese nationals), along with Matthew Mathias, Oluwaseun Amoo, Wasiu Ademola Alao, Ajibola Nurudeen, Ibrahim Yinusa, and Saidu Shuaibu (Nigerians).
Recovered items from the suspects include three trucks loaded with substances suspected to be ground lithium powder, a Toyota 4Runner SUV, mobile phones, samples of low-grade lithium, ATM cards, international passports, and other documents. The suspects will face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
