INEC Denies Abure

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied recognizing certain individuals as leaders of the Labour Party (LP), specifically refuting claims that it has endorsed particular persons as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary.

In a statement issued on Thursday, INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, described media reports suggesting the commission’s recognition as “false and misleading.” The commission clarified that it has not made any decisions regarding the LP’s leadership or that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The names of the National Officers of the LP had previously been uploaded to our website following a court order, not related in any way to the latest judgement of the Supreme Court. In the same manner, the name of the National Secretary of the PDP on the same website was neither deleted nor reinstated,” the statement added.

The commission is currently studying the Supreme Court’s judgment on the Labour Party and will communicate its decision to the public in due course.
